Apatche Jet x Hear the Cheers
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1636342&damid=1453016
Possibly one of Willy Whats best pups to date, Hear the Cheers was a very quick and versatile bitch, with flying times at Addington over the 520m in 30.16 and 30.22. She amassed $46,000 in prize money, travelled to Auckland and took out the 2009 Sires Produce final, had 18 wins with some BODs and was a consistent open class performer who could sprint (17.33 Add 295m) and sustain her gallop over distance (43.88 Add 732m).
Great to see her go to Apatche Jet, he was a very fast dog and amassed over 50k in prize money, he won 23 of his 48 starts and he wouldve cleaned up another 100k during his career had it not been restricted by injury. He is the current TR holder over the 457 at Ascot Park in a low flying 25.74. People forget how good this dog was, he was a tenacious chaser, beating some of the best dogs in the country (Winsome Opawa twice) and dominated NZRS finals up and down the country. Probably a track and record that stands out was his affiliation with Wanganui track. He travelled there 7 times for 7 wins, 6 of them in BOD and all of them broke 30secs, with the best being 29.71 for the 520m.
Both these dogs showed immense ability, they are from local stock and although there is an unproven element to Apatche Jet and Willy What as a damsire, class should prevail. Both of these tremendous chasers deserve to be given the opportunity to produce on, and a classy pup or 2 would not surprise.
Varvatos x Tigger foot
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1435769&damid=1390703
Nice to see a mating like this one with strength in mind, and its no surprise we see the underrated Aqua line at play here, a known damline of stamina. Please see earlier breeding news for stats on Varvatos, but he could really throw something, as his damline is superb through Ready To Rain and Token Prince and by NZs supersire in Big Daddy Cool.
Tigger Foot boasts some very handy times over the middle distance, with a PB of 30.56 around the 527m at Manukau. She also had strength too, competing with some top stayers with placings in behind the likes of Mr Jazz and Varvatos, and won herself over the 650m and 747m at Cambridge.
Winsome Larrikin may well be a very nice damsire at play here, he was a very handy dog, a litter sister to Winsome Duchess (Dam of Winsome Bucks, Winsome Dosh, Winsome Daisy etc) and Winsome Dollars (Dam of Winsome Ashley), and is a ½ brother to Winsome Bluebird&Dam of superstar Miata. These pups could be little smokeys and are my value pup this month.
Path to Power x Botany Freda
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1139749&damid=1777277
Demolishing his opposition in the 2006 Group2 Launching Pad, and consistent group performer, Path To Power had pace to burn. A career cut short by injury, he was something special with some slashing times, including a 29.59 at Sandown giving a top dog in Fenceline windburn. He offers a pedigree full with chase and speed, with Credibility, Head Honcho and Awesome Assassin as potent forces in his line. He should match up very well with NZ bitches; those saturated with Brett Lees or Malawis Prince, and is a very nice son of Awesome Assassin who should be considered to those that have clicked nicely with Collision before. His first crop of pups includes Group winners Galaxy High (Sale Oaks, 29.79 Sandown), Lethal Power (Golden Egg heat winner, 29.54 Sandown) and Path To Vegas (2012 Richmond Derby winner in a flying 30.39).
Botany Freda was a handy Bitch from a very nice damline in Once Again Barb. She had some nice wins including a 30.57 over the 520m at Addington, and looked to have the family trait of early speed but the ability to stick on when in front. This damline produces the goods; it seems to work&even when on paper it might not look to contain classic lines&it has the Bale element in Oshkosh Bale, and a decent outcross through Southern Champ. She is a litter sister to some very handy dogs in Botany Mathew, Botany Angela and Kazz Razz. Once again Barbs next litter to Surgeon have just hit the traps and are on their way to similar success as the other three litters before them. To me this is the sort of breeding, similar to that of Another Dollar, that Kiwi breeders are looking to focus on. It is handy lines, a lot of early speed but with every litter there are those that dont just have the early speed, but the heart and the class to keep going over 520. Its the mixed bag that I often talk to people about, nothing wrong with going with early pace&.but go with a line with the ability to throw stick ability too, and with a high percentage of pups that make the grade. This will be a potent line for NZ racing in many years to come.
And for the final Whelp this month(s), you couldnt go past the repeat mating (see previous threads for repeat matings) of Thrilling Faith to Hallucinate, for breeder Gary Harding. Will they get another Thrilling Brat, Quest or Sprat? I cant wait to see in eighteen months time.

Thrilling Louie x Natashas Duffer
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1297937&damid=1512987
Thrilling Louie was a group dog in the making, amassing 33k from 22 starts, with 14 wins and some very nice times over the 457m Cambridge (25.37 BOD) and the 527m at Manukau in 30.39. His 3rd in the 2006 NZ Cup was very good for such a young dog, and he beat home some top dogs that day in Winsome Blitz and Another Whisky. With his career cut short over injury, he has had a very good start to his stud career, including some nice pups such as Darlek Khan, Deciever and Howlin Wind. He is by a great sire in Elite State (a value sire with the NZGRA) and his mother Winsome Melody was a decent racer and rocketed to C5. This line throws; it has the same bottom line as the great Miata and you only have to go through the Winsome line to see the caliber of dogs this line has thrown in the past.
Natashas Duffer looks a great brood for Louie, she was a consistent sprinter and yo-yoed around open class. But its her pedigree that shines through to me, as she is by the very talented Super Man, and she may well be the only bitch in the country from this talented sire. The Superman dam line through Im Puzzles is one of those handy lines, again with Head Honcho for plenty of chase. Her dam Storma Norma is by Just The Best and Cyclone Kelly, the dam of the very underrated Return The King. This creative line mixed with Head Honcho and Brett Lee has so much chase and speed it is scary, and really could throw lightning quick youngsters, again a mating best suited to NZ racing conditions. But its when you look at the mating on paper thats when it gets interesting. In Jans segment there are some nice doubles and some interesting crosses that may become potent in the future. One of those was the Just The Best double, as seen that of the mating of Knocka Norris x Rumour tism
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1397367&damid=1567948
This double of Just The Best may just be starting to look potent, as can be seen in the recent Golden Easter Egg Winner, Dont Knocka Him.
http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?d=dont+knocka+him&sex=&color=&birthyear=&birthland=\
The more I look at this mating the more I like it, line bred through Fortified speed and Malawis Prince. There is something brewing with this litter and if you can, get your hands on a pup or 2, as they just might be very nice race dogs. But the Thilling Louie x Natashas Duffer reflects this cross and may be a cheaper alternative but could be just as worthwhile.
Ahane Lad x Lou Bale
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1042468&damid=1557325
This mating, although it probably doesnt reflect value for the pup buyer, does reflect true class and has the potential to throw a superstar. Have a look at Lou Bales pedigree and like me, youll be very impressed. Not only was she a handy strong race bitch (30.75 Addington), she is a half sister to group performers Joshua Allen and Oliver Allen by Primo Uno, she is a litter sister to top stayer and Group 1 National Distance winner Jarvis Bale, and the daughter of one of the worlds best sires in Sonic Flight. Having a brood of her caliber and pedigree is unbelievable, considering what the other Sonic Flight Bale litter produced in freaks Amity and Amelia Bale, and we all know the freaks Amelia Bale has produced in Bekim and Heston Bale. She is a rare brood for sure, and if she doesnt throw a top middle or distance dog, then I dont know what will. She has the bloodlines for sure, choosing a sire wouldnt have been an easy decision as you could try to mimic that which produced Bekim Bale etc, but she has been mated to Ahane Lad.
From a geneticists point of view (not that I claim to be one!) it is a cross primed for a future champion, a strong Silver Collar winning champion and line bred through one of the best brood bitches the UK has ever had in Westmead Flight. Go through the pedigree, click on top offspring, second top offspring, move around and through the top dogs and there is so much depth here. Ahane Lad is a decent sire in his own right and has clicked very nicely with Aussie bitches so far. His dam Daffodil Dance is a litter sister to Premier County, the sire of top Aus import stud dog Premier Fantasy. Great to have matings like this in NZ, and more so brood bitches carrying THE finest import blood in the world, and our industry and future are all the better for it.
To finish off this month(s) segment of Breeding News, when going through some of the matings there is an interesting matchup, whereas 2 litter sisters have gone fairly simultaneously to 2 very different stud dogs.
1- Johnny Midnight x Feeler McNiely
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1442431&damid=1649601
2- Winsome Opawa x Fastback Queen
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1647778&damid=1642997
The first thing that stands out to me is the line breeding is similar in depth throughout the pedigree. The first is line bred in the 4th remove through Head Honcho, whilst the 2nd is line bred in the 4th remove through credibility. This represents some strong chase and decent speed from the 2, but its the 2nd that looks to have it balanced better through a very nice outcross in Spiral Nikita. Thats not to say that the Johnny Midnights wont produce the goods, its all to do with what people are happy with in the pups or break-ins they buy, or with future plans in strengthening lines or injecting hybrid vigor; it comes down to the debate about line-breeding I guess. You can see from the percentages on the line breeding , a 68% inbreeding co-efficient with the Johnny Midnight litter, as opposed to a 44% inbreeding co-efficient in the Winsome Opawa litter. Anything over 65% is to close for me, but thats my opinion. If you are tossing up which sires to use, dont forget to enquire about the behavior and physiology of the stud dog and his progeny, these are his traits that he passes on. He may be line bred and concentrating those Freak genes but you may be concentrating undesirably traits, behavior or weaknesses in physiology.
Both matings have the potential to throw a very good dog, and the line breeding may become a potent force, and we can see many cases of Head Honcho or Credibility doubles that have thrown a decent dog. With both these bitches being half sisters to freakish bitch Cindeen Shelby, its interesting that they havent gone to something by Bombastic Shiraz, or a son of, or even Black Shiraz somewhere in the stud dogs pedigree. If I was trying to choose between the 2 matings for a pup, I would chose Winsome Opawa, especially if it was a bitch pup with future broody in mind, as you can always go back to the Aus lines to something with Bombastic blood. The Johnny Midnights will need a hybrid force at some point, possibly in the next generation. So if you are buying with broody in mind&.there will have to be some outcross in your sire choice I feel. The Winsome Opawas already have this injected through Spiral Nikita, so you really have a lot more range of future stud dogs to choose from, and then line bred further if desirable.
But both matings have merit, both sires were sensational race dogs, and I will be following these pups closely as they develop to see what traits both sires have brought to the table with these 2 litter sisters.
Thanks for reading.

Arthur Ritis x Ostis Ruby.
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1808483&damid=1623933
A very well bred daughter of Hallucinate and Special Osti, open class bitch Ostis Ruby amassed some top wins at Manukau over the 527m (Best 30.50) and over 650m at Cambridge. Trainer Glennis Farrell sent her south to be served by the very quick Arthur Ritis, a cross that looks set to produce a very handy pup or 3. Ostis ruby is a litter sister to Tarra Magic (c5 and rips around the Wanganui track in sub 30secs) a half sister to Snozz (multiple group performer and now at stud) and is also a half sister to the very talented Young Snozz, and Vivaldi Star.
This damline sure looks potent, and through Arthur Ritis we see a great example of line breeding as these pups are line bred through their bottom line in Enchanted Osti and Malawis Prince. There is a proven element at work here to, the dam of Ostis Ruby, Special Osti has a flying litter to Collision, including Young Snozz and multiple TR holder Rima. This cross represents value and oozes class.
My Jack Attack x Kerries Fantasy.
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1808483&damid=1623933
Great to see My Jack Attack get a few bitches, and he was the best of a very talented litter and boasted some flying times of 18.21 Manukau 318m, 20.87 375m and 25.30 457m Cambridge and 17.31 over the 295m at Addington. When we look at his pedigree there are some fantastic outcrosses, and his sire Zac Attack was no slouch either&very very quick on his day and reduced to sprinting through injury. The double up of Black Shiraz through Zac Attack, is balanced with a quality outcrossed grand dam in Gentle Memory. Not only is she by top sire Spiral Nikita, but her dam Adage is an indirect litter sister to Fortress, a potent force of hybrid vigor in some sensational dogs such as Knocka Norris and Velocette.
Open class sprinter Kerries Fantasy is herself by top import sire in Premier Fantasy, the sire of top aussie dogs such as Tuaki, Hurricane Luke, Swift Fantasy and Prince Diablo. Her damline through Junoesque brings Token Prince and Light Of Fire into play, and this damline can produce dogs with lightning early pace such as Elite Jag, or tenacious strength such as Fifi the Genius.
Radio Star x Rocky Bend Girl.
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1459502&damid=1524683
Lightning out the boxes, with some scorching times are the Manukau track (Best 18.17 318m), Rocky Bend Girl was a consistent c5 campaigner. Surf Lorian doesnt normally throw short courses, but her damline in Cry Havoc and Light Of Fire may well be the dominant force here, but may not be the case in her pups. This damline, when you dig a little deeper, is intriguing. This is the same damline as top dogs Bogie Ace, Aston Volante and Bogie Bomber to name a few. It has the potential to throw a champion, and may well do so in the future through Rocky Bend Girl.
Radio star was a very quick strong dog (Richmond 30.34 535m, Wentworth park 29.79 520m) and was a multiple group performer. He should go very well with NZ bitches, especially those who want some sort after Hallucinate blood into the pups. He is also a litter mate to stars such as Repeated, Thai Alert, Hendrix and Magnifique and has the same damline as Bond, Thai Charm, November Ghandi and Bellas Angel to name a few of the multitude of good dogs this line throws. Its a solid producing line that will throw on over and over again, and the matchup with Rocky Bend Girl should prove very potent in years to come.

Jim Bob x As Fast As.
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1426965&damid=1647082
Current TR holder over 570 at Horsham, and flying son of the underrated Collide had produced 5 pups (2d 3b) to the lid pinger As Fast As. Jim Bobs line throws pace and strength; he is a litter brother to flying machines such as Proven Alias (TR holder over Bendigo 545m and Shepparton 450m) and ¾ brother Proven Que Tee. Headbound has been a sensational sire in the UK and Ireland, and continues to produce dogs with exceptional pace such as Bar the Devil, Thurlesburg Joker and Ferdia Bound. Personally I think his stud fee has been overpriced, and subsequently we havent seen the pups we should have from the talented sire. Other litters such as the Another Laurel and Jennas Pride litters have produced some lighting fast sprinters. He is a genuine sire of early pace and chase, and this cross with Jim Bob could throw anything, considering that this cross mimics that which produced Proven Alias, as she is by No Intent (Sobbing Sal and Hotshow Deb are litter sisters).
Knocka Norris x Black Anubis.
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1397367&damid=1221561
Black Anubis, litter sister to top performer Bush Legend, has whelped 7 pups (4d 3b) to the flying son of Elite State in Knocka Norris. Black Anubis has a very nice line, despite being by Go Wild Teddy, it throws in some potent size and strength. Bush Legend was a machine, a TR holder and had probably the best finish to match any to race since. Here they have balanced it perfectly with a known sire of early pace, and the balance of traits here should produce some lightning quick middle distance youngsters. Black Anubiss handy and versatile pups so far include; Flip the Dice, Delichon Urbica, Lifes Great, Proverbial and Black Emily and sticking with the Just The Best theme here in my opinion will produce the best pups so far.
Im a big fan of Knocka Norris, he has a pedigree to die for, and the talented son of Elite state has some very quick pups coming through such as Mr Clydesdale, Noar In Knocka and Knocka Knows Al.
Taking a look at his pedigree; damline through Goddess Of Fire (litter sister to Assassin), outcross through Fortified Speed, early speed and chase through Solve The Puzzle and Rema Rose&& (a standout in other very talented dogs, such as stud up and comer and talented chaser, Western Land), and Elite state- a genuine top sire.
Terra Keroma x Calm Waves.
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1269091&damid=1649851
This talented daughter of Bond and Breaking Waves had whelped 8 pups (4d 4b) to a great bread and butter sire in Terra Keroma. His line is massive, the Keroma line throws quality and lots of it, and he should not be overlooked if you have broodies that have clicked nicely with the Mantina line in the past. Calm Waves herself is a member of a talented litter, including Albies Lad and Da Boss, and has a best time at Addington of 30.73 for the 520m. Her Dam Breaking Waves (Rapid Journey x Tip The Wink) is a litter sister to talented chasers and producers such as Bankside Dream, Bankside Brat and is a half sister to iron dogs Fanta Claws and Gelignite. It will be great to see this line continue to be utilized for its versatility and its ability to through dogs with the X factor. I still think one of the fastest litters we have seen in NZ was the Hallucinate x Bankside Dream litter, producing flying machines Bionic Dream, McCracken, Dream Trip and Dreamy Haze.
We can see why they chose this underrated sire for Calm Waves, as he has already produced a flying litter to Action Zam, including top chasers Mainland Star and Mamaja. Action Zam is a litter sister to Fanta Claws, making these pups ¾ brothers and sisters these top NZ bred pups, again showing that this line has the potency to produce very handy dogs. This cross represents a proven element and great value, and is my pick for those in the pup market at present.
Breeding news November/ December 2010.
2 Topics of opinion, something to think about over the holidays.
Building a Damline
Overflo x Heatherlea Rose
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1034512&damid=1303962
An underated son of Brett lee and Flo jo tears, Overflo has produced some very talented dogs in the past few years. This is partly due to the patronage of Australias most successful breeder in Paul Wheeler, producing dogs such as Allen Harper and Shereen bale, but he is ticking along nicely producing city winners. He has a flying litter in nz out of a very good producer in Royal Doll, including Roy Hobbes/Grizz/Thanks Mercedes etc, who can really gallop. The cross with Heatherlea Rose looks to replicates this cross, as she is also by Royal Assasin, and brings to the table some potent crosses; Such as the Brett lee x Leprechaun Miss cross, that has produced the likes of Bettys Angel, Miss Mini Mouse, Global Warming etc. Heatherlea Rose was a very quick bitch, with some slashing times around Wanganui (Best 29.88). Her litter mates were very talented, including the likes of Marty Hall And Mr CLontarf and she has already produced a very good litter by a son of Brett Lee in Hallucinate, producing the likes of Louie Machall, and the rest of the litter are no slouches.
What I really like about this is the Halls have developed a line around a central figure in Rosie hall (Sids Son x Flying Jessica). They have gone to quality Frozen, and have reared and broken in not just quality dogs, but very versatile handy litters, the test of any potent damline. It probably goes back further; there is good reason to see the influence of Flying Jessica in the bottom line of other talented dogs such as Lotto Balls. Lets not forget the Just Like That (Astro teddy x Rosie Hall) litter to Meticulous too, including really decent offspring in Freddy John, Mr Meticulous etc.
This is a great example of building a damline, having faith in what its ability to throw good dogs and the odd flying machine. Do you grab broodbitches from all sorts of handy damlines? Or do you nurture, strengthen and maintain the one line around central figures? Obviously if the line doesnt fire then youre in some strive, but the Halls have put their faith in it, put in the hard yards and have got a very nice line that looks to be their own. I think the damline will continue to produce more than handy dogs, its a line that seems to respond to the influx of Brett Lee bloodlines, and I expect to see these pups ripping up the Wanganui track, as many youngsters from this damline have in the past.
Repeat Matings
Scot Excited x Blue Fern
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1264390&damid=651160
Scot excited is going great at stud, and getting plenty of quality bitches and subsequent stock coming through. I have written about him on older posts, so il discuss the mating itself as it a repeat of the mating which produced the recent Group1 Spion Rose winner in Know Peace for Jean and Dave Fahey. It wont be long before we see this guy over more ground, as to me he looks to be carrying the legacy left by his granddam in champion Groovy Jewel. But the fact is, the whole litter are looking very strong and while a lot of pups coming through look to be 400m at best, these guys are looking stronger than ever. As seen by litter mates, Know Future, Know Revenge and Know Peril, for example.
The cross itself looks quite linebred though, the 3x3 Token prince is interesting, creating a Malawis Prince double that has always been attributed to producing dashing pups (Goodsey, High Earner etc). This strength that Token Prince throws is balanced well with the chase from Credibility and an interesting factor in Shining Kev. He may well be throwing his fair share into these pups through Blue fern, and no doubt to me it clicks with Token Prince very well. Looking at Shining Kevs offspring, there is much influence from him in strong dogs such as Kittys Thunder for Leo and Hene Laagland, and John Goodes Aqua line such as champion Aqua Mouse. Look out for pups from this line in the future, such as Meeces to Pieces, as going back to something with some Token Prince looks mouthwatering:
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1080756&damid=1760004
Fashion thiefs best pup to date for me would be Elie Saab (Dam Shining Kev x Little Girl Lost), no doubt the Token prince and Shining Kev are going nicely here too, but its the token fever cross that mimics Blue Ferns pedigree, that looks to be coming through. She should be a solid producer in the future, as will possible smokeys such as Jin Ju, Ruby Tron or Know Glory.
Getting back to Repeat Matings, there is often some debate over whether to repeat a proven cross. Razldazl Pearl went to Razldazl Billy (Uk Ire) 3 times and had great success, Awesome Berger has gone to Bombastic shiraz 3 times with great results (Awesome Bender, Sam I Am etc). But on the other hand they put the super broody Elusive rebel back to Brett Lee, this time producing not even close to another Wheres Pedro, Hallucinate or Crash&.and they wouldve been very expensive pups.
I think if you have a good litter, like the Scot Excited x Blue fern, logically you either go to the same sire or a similar sire with the same grandsire or granddam. But personally I would go to a variety of sires, even some hybrid vigor, go out and then come back to Scot Excited as you know it has a proven element. To me this maintains the damline, without weakening it through saturation and will add to the longevity. Shining kev can cross well with Thunder Creek (Crafty Flynn, Know Glory, Kittys thunder), sisters Sheza Swifty (Texas Gold) and Tricky Wind (Thunder Creek) should complement the cross and flying Penske is a top sire of strength. If she were my bitch id give her one litter to something like Drill Em:

Collision x Sugar Plum
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=523220&damid=1662691
Sugar Plum (Big Daddy Cool x Rush of Gold) broke in very very good, with blitzing wins in her first 2 starts at Richmond 535m in 30.69 BON and Dapto in 29.99 BON. She has everything you would want in a racing bitch, with true early pace, athleticism and raw ability. She has a best time at Addington of 30.34 BON, and was destined for open class after a dashing 30.46 BON win at Addington at only her second start in nz. Group participation and success was on the cards, but she has been luckless with injuries. Craig and Di Roberts and decided to get a litter from her during one of her injury breaks, and have chosen absolute quality in Collision. Her Dam in Rush of gold was a group winner of the Dapto Oaks in 2004, herself hailing from the Bale damline and sired by Token prince, should complement the raw speed that Collision brings to the table. These pups are exciting prospects for sure.
Lochinvar Marlow x Winsome Dosh.
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1601216&damid=1394521
Winsome Dosh (Hallucinate x Winsome Duchess) was a sensational greyhound, winning the 2008 Duke of Edinburgh silver collar and over 130k in prizemoney. She is also bred in the purple, and is a member of a potent damline in winsome duchess, the same that produced Winsome Ashley, Winsome Bucks, Winsome Daisy and Winsome Lesson to name a few. When you look at the cross, there are some very interesting crosses here. For me, the duplications of Brett Lee and Awesome Assasin will be telling indeed, and it will be great to see what this produces, as we will be looking at more and more of these duplications in the future. Lochinvar marlow represents a greyhound with impeccable genes; you couldnt fault the strength of Bombastic Shiraz (possibly the best sire ever in my opinion) and the raw speed from Brett lee, which balance each other very well in his pedigree. One to watch in the future as these pups could be anything and a very interesting cross indeed.
Knocka Norris x Rumour Tism
http://www.greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=1397367&damid=1567948
Rumour Tism (Big Daddy Cool x Zilla) is a litter sister to the freak Little mother, a member of a top litter, and a very good greyhound in her own right (Wang 520m 29.92).
Another totally interesting pedigree and one to ponder over and over as the linebreeding and matchups here are unique, and could throw anything. 3x3 Fortified Speed, 2x2 Just the Best, its very similar to the Winsome Dosh mating whereas its hard to find other crosses in past mating or pups with these types of double ups. The double up of just the best through Knocks Norris can work, Knocka Down or Kissy kissy are very handy types. I love Knocka Norriss pedigree and he is going very well at stud, the fortified speed outcross can be very potent, and a double up here is very interesting.
This cross is Quality Frozen, Quality broods; from a genetic enthusiast- Its great to see these crosses come up. We know the Token prince/Malawis prince duplication can work very well, will the Brett Lee work? Or Just the best? Awesome Assasin maybe? Or even Fortified Speed? Time will tell, but its exciting to see this type of linebreeding, however be sure if you have a bitch from this mating that was handy; you may have to look to an outcross at some stage, as linebreeding can have its disadvantages, a big topic for discussion and one il touch on more in Jans breeding news.
On another note, I may be wrong in my thoughts here, as there is so much to learn about genetics and the wealth of knowledge from some of the gurus in aussie is massive. If you dont agree with some of my thoughts on these posts/blogs or need advice or anything, then I welcome anyone to contact me.
All the best for 2012, may the winners continue, and support local greyhound breeding and invest in some great pups, as we can sure produce great product here in NZ.

Mogambo x Go the Bug
A flying son of Wheres Pedro and Zarbo, he will be a sire to watch out for in the future in NZ. His damline (Spanish Dance strikes again) is superb, producing the likes of Nitro Nori, St. Pierre, Slick Rick, Lady Arko, Gold Sonata etc etc&..this is a damline that consistently produces quality dogs.
Go the bug (Bombastic Shiraz x My Girl Mavis) was a city winner at Richmond, Wentworth Park (30.60), The Gardens, and is a litter sister to open class performers Kid Delaney and Kokoda Sun (30.06 Wentworth park). This cross should produce pups with speed and strength, and a potent stayer or 2 would not surprise.
Harajuku boy x Keroma Safari
A member of very talented litter (BDCool x Idol Appeal), and with litter mates like Matanuska and Bengineer, you dont have to say much really&.this litter could really fly. Harajuku boy boasts some flying times at Auckland and Cambridge, including a 30.20 over 527m and 25.35 over 457m. Keroma Safari (Royal Assassin x Mantina) is a litter sister to Reba Keroma and a half sister to Aztec Keroma. This Mantina line throws pace, and lots of it. This litter also replicates the cross that has produced flying youngster Snicko, and there is no reason why this mating could not produce the same.
Result 1 Bitch
Scot Excited x Know Desire
Again, you dont have to be Einstein to see why they chose this cross, it is simple in its execution. Know Desire was an open class sprinter and member of the very good Willy What x Love of history litter. This cross will produce ¾ brothers and sisters to Know Joy, Know Spunk, Firemans Salute, Know Excitement and Know Rival. Dont think I need to say anything about it, this is as proven a cross as you can get, and a decent buy for those in the pup market.
Services
Collision x Ava Appeal
We know Collision can produce them, throws plenty of pace and chase. But Ive put this mating in this month as Ava Appeal was an enigma. She had some injury issues, but in my opinion she had so much potential and raw ability it was scary. She couldve been a sensational greyhound, perhaps the best in the country, and when she was at the track- she demolished her opposition. I always think the best middle distance dogs can run open class sprints as well, Little Mother can sure do it and I think Have A Yap could easily compete in c5 over 318m. But Ava Appeal burst on the scene one ordinary Sunday at Manukau with a 16length BOD 30.33 over 527, she then broke the Cambridge TR at her 2nd start running 25.20. After a layoff with injury they lined her up in a sprint a month later, boom 18.17 for the 318 at Auckland on the same day the C5s went 18.57.
Ava Appeal, by the underrated Monsters Inc and Twinkle Appeal, deserves a top sire' she got it here in Collision. Class will prevail here in these pups, and if they have half her ability they will be more than handy on the track.
Cool Effort x Will She Echo
Cool Effort (BDCool x Token Effort) was a flying machine, and will continue BDCools legacy, but deserves to be a top sire in his own right. His pedigree has class and balance all through it, bringing chase in Head Honcho, strength through Token Prince and BDCools ability to throw more than handy dogs that seem to thrive on our racing system in NZ.
Will She Echo (Willy What x Black Echo) could really run on her day. She is one of only a handful of dogs that has broken the mythical elite 30sec barrier at Addington, and has a very decent PB of 32.42sec over the 545m at Dunedin in the very next race after sensational greyhound McCracken went 32.39.
This mating also carries the double up of Malawis Prince, a cross that really seems to fire 3 or 4 steps back in both pedigrees, and can throw a pup with that X factor (Pure Octane, High Earner, Goodsey etc).
Octane Al x Whata Bowla
Good to see this mating come up, as I was hoping Octane Al (Pure Octane x Al fresco) would get a bitch or two. Hailing from the Spanish Dance line, and litter brother to freaks Mantra Lad and Diamond Zac, he could more than handle himself with the best Aussie had to offer, including a 2nd in the Wentworth Park Group 2 Cup in behind Gold Slammer. Like his brother Mantra Lad, he was very strong, and looks a nice cross with short course bitches such as Whata Bowla (Willy what x Shiraz Royale).
However, there is an element of strength and versatility in Whata Bowlas pedigree, Shiraz Royale has been a more than handy producer of dogs such as Tails Off, Rotovegas Girl, Twenty Sixty etc. Herself an open class sprinter, hers is the same damline as proven producer Funny Girl, a bottom line that sure does produce the goods. Plenty of chase through Black Shiraz, nicks such as the Brett Lee x Elusive Rebel, and the robustness of a little bit of outcross through Farloe Melody and Wendys Legend, make this a little smokey litter in the making. Look around if you are in the pup market, as these show great value in my opinion.
Breeding News September
Collision x Pizza Girl
The 2007/2008 GOTY, daughter of Big Daddy Cool and Brooklyn Doll has whelped 9 little all blacks, for breeder John Mc Inerney.
Lightning out of the boxes, she amassed 59wins and bagged over 100k in prize money, including a well deserved win the 2007 Group 2 Galaxy Sprint, over 295m at Addington Raceway. Although she was a sprinting machine, litter mates Shes Too Cool and Young Daddy were strong open class contenders over the 527m at Auckland, and her dam Brooklyn Doll was a group contender in Aus; with a 2nd in the 2000 Group 1 Laurels being a standout. Although this mating with the proven sire in Collision has the initial look of early speed to burn, there is an element of strength there that should produce some very handy types over the middle distance.
Bombastic Shiraz x Dream Trip
Dream Trip whelped 7 pups to the immortal Bombastic Shiraz, a sire that brings chase strength and class to the table.
Dream Trip hails from a very nice damline through Tip the Wink, out of another sensational sire in Hallucinate. Herself a group 2 winner in the 2008 Waikato Classic, she is a member of a great litter of group winners and track record holders, such as McCraken/Dream Haze/ Elara and Bionic Dream. Going to Bombastic Shiraz provides a proven cross with Tip The Wink, the cross that produced iron dogs such as Fanta Claws and Gelignite. A very balanced mating, with a proven element will see these pups have the potential to be superstars in the future.
Excite Ability x Gentle Lee
Gentle Lee has stormed into the broodbitch ranks with her Zac Attack litter, and it is not hard to see why.
A daughter of Brett Lee and Gentle Memory, she has a mouthwatering damline through Irish stud dog Spiral Nikita and granddam Adage. Adage is interesting indeed, as she is an indirect litter sister (repeat mating) to another top outcross sire in Fortress. We have seen many times, the benefit of Fortress when going back to Aus lines, such as Slater/Velocette and in NZ through Dark Cavalier and Azure Osti. This is also true for Spiral Nikita when used with Brett Lee, producing the likes of Talks Cheap/Cosmic Rumble and Magic Sprite to name a few.
She has whelped 4 pups to Excite Ability for breeders Keith and Penny Sutch Jones, with a proven cross, set to mimic that which produced Cosmic Rumble. Excite abilitys damline through Follow Through and Malawis Prince, with Brett Lee and Spiral Nikita, is a sensational cross with class throughout.
Services
Just the Best x Reba Keroma
Its great to see some services like this come up, with no expense spared, and a logical mating cross. Seeing breeders using the likes on Token Prince and Just The Best is great to see, and will have so much benefit on our breed here in NZ in the future. Reba Keroma has produced some real smart ones, including a potent youngster in Snicko from her Big Daddy Cool litter. Going to the sire of sires in Just The Best (Big Daddy Cool, Elite State, Surf Lorian) looks a logical and outstanding choice. The Keroma line throws quality, and I cant wait to see these pups hit the track in a couple of years time.
Winsome Cruiser x Fervid
Nice to see a mating from Winsome Cruiser, he has a top class pedigree and was a very good dog on his day. The double up of Brett Lee should be interesting, and its a cross will see more of in the future, here and Aus. He hails from the same damline as Winsome Ashley, and its a damline that has the potential to throw a superstar such as Winsome Ashley and the much talked about rising talent Miati in Western Australia.
I see this cross as a definite little smokey, Fervid is a litter sister to group performer Jetwash, from the underrated sire in Collide. Her first litter to Paddy Flyin has produced a real nice up and comer in Marks Pet, and this litter, although not to an expensive sire or from a group winning bitch, should throw some very handy pups. If I was a buyer looking for value in pups, it is from these matings that I would look to buy, as they have quality all the way through and have that exciting potential of producing that pup with the X factor.
July 2011
Johnny Midnight.
This dog continues to get quality bitches, and rightly so. He was a freak, a flying machine, repeatedly trailing sub 30 at Addington as a juvenile.
This New Zealand Derby winner has now produced 6 pups (4d 2b) to Fantasy Grace (Token Prince x Amy Grace). Going to a son of Brett Lee was a no brainer for this well bred bitch, she is a litter sister to group performers Smash Kingdom and Smash McCoy. Taking the line to a son of Brett Lee brings in the very nice cross that produced Group winner and quality sire Prang, and group performers Smash Palace, Drifting and Smashing Amy (all through Collide).
Brandeen
A value sire of chase and early speed, this talented son of Head Honcho has sired a litter of 7 pups (2d 5b) to Rosianna Belle (Wheres Pedro x Rosianna Token) for Andy and Bev Duganzich.
Before injury cut short an emerging talent, in just her seven races she had clocked a flying 17.31 at Wanganui over 305m and a very nice 30.33 over the 520m. She hails from the same damline as Johnny Midnight. Many Quality Reason dogs for breeder Rob Tyler and the Know Casual Wave (Blue Fern and Duchess Fern) damline for NZ breeder Gary Cleeve.
Arthur Ritis x Little Marvel.
A flying son of Collision, from the classic Osti line, we never saw the best of this dog in NZ (tendon injury). With wins at Gosford in 30.12 and Wentworth Park in 29.80, he looks a very nice son of Collision and a natural mating choice for NZ Breeders.
Little Marvel (Droopys Scolari x Hotshow Marion) has a mouthwatering damline. Hotshow Marion a litter sister to group winners Horshow Lil and Hotshow Jackson, and has line rich in speed and strength. The outcross in the very talented Droopys Scolari provides some interesting points when looking them over. The Follow through in smooth rumble (rumble spirit in Collision) has crossed very well in UK and IRE in the quality broodbitch in Mega Delight where she produced sensationally to Droopys Scolari and his brother Droopys Maldini
