Trials Policy

 

 

Tuesday Trial Days

Tuesday trial days are open to all grades however emphasis will be given for pups.  In thattrainers will be provided with more time, if required, to facilitate the breaking in of their pups.  Note puppies can still be trialed at Wednesday meetings but racing greyhounds will have priority.

 

Tuesday Trial days will proceed on a strictly on demand basis Trainers must notify the number of greyhounds they have to trial to the office by midday on the day prior to the proposed meeting.  There must be a minimum of 15 greyhounds notified to the Office by closing time before the Trial Meeting will proceed.

 

Wednesday Trial Days

Wednesday trial days are open to all grades with priority to racing greyhounds, i.e. trainers may not automatically be provided with more time to facilitate the breaking in of their pups.  All greyhounds should be on site and entered prior to 10.30am, text messages are not deemed to be an entry.

 

Wednesday Trial days will proceed on entry on arrival basis.

 

Start Times

Trial meetings commence at 10.00am.  With the likelihood of fewer greyhounds trialing on a Wednesday trainers are reminded to arrive promptly for trials of greyhounds to avoid disappointment of the Trials meeting having concluded before they arrive.

 

 

Race Day Trials

Greyhounds to trial at the conclusion of kenneling:

  • Qualifying Trials
  • Re-Qualifying Trials
  • Reserved Greyhounds for the race meeting

·         Field Trials over recognized race distances only

·         Greyhounds trained outside the Northern Region granted prior approval by the Board.

 

Note the name of the greyhound must be supplied when the trainer notifies trial numbers on the preceding day or Friday in the case of a Sunday meeting.

 

Reserve Trials

Trials for reserve dogs that did not gain a start will be conducted in accordance with the Rules.  All reserve greyhounds are to be presented to the Kennel Staff, ten minutes prior to the conclusion of kenneling, to be identified prior to trialing.

 

Qualifying Trials and Satisfactory Trials

In accordance with the GRNZ Directive all Qualifying and Satisfactory trials are to be held on race days, there is no provision for any exceptions.

 

Trainers are reminded that nominations for qualifying and satisfactory trials close with the Office at 12 noon on the preceding Friday for Saturday or Sunday race meeting and the preceding day for midweek meetings.

 

Trainers are reminded that it is their responsibility to coordinate the field, including obtaining any fill in dogs, for the qualifying or re-qualifying trials.

 

All greyhounds contesting Qualifying and Satisfactory Trials are to be presented in the Parade Ring no later than 15 minutes prior to the advertised time for the closing of Kenneling for the race meeting.  After inspection all greyhounds contesting Qualifying Trials will be weighed.

 

 

 

Field Trials

This Field trials format continues before race meetings and there will be heats/races for the following grades:

C0                   318m                           527m               C1                   318m                           527m

C2                   318m                           527m               C3                   318m                           527m

C4                   318m                           527m               C5                   318m                           527m

The conditions applying to these trials are:

  • Greyhounds must be nominated before 12 noon on a Friday, for Sunday meeting, and 12 noon Wednesday for a Thursday meeting.  No exceptions
  • Name of greyhound must be given at time of nomination.
  • Maximum of four dogs per race, i.e. if 7 C0 greyhounds are nominated there will be a heat of 4 and a heat of 3 dogs.  Note if there is less than 4 dogs the heat/race still precedes even if there is only one dog.
  • Trainers are to ensure they have arranged handlers/catchers for all dogs.
  • If a dog misses the start of its nominated heat/race it shall be offered an alternate trial opportunity after the meeting.

 

Deferment of Trials

Note in the situation of adverse weather or marginal track conditions the Club reserves the right to reschedule, without any consultation with LPs, all pre-race meeting trials to after the last totalisator race.  The decision to transfer these trials will be made no later than 2½ hours prior to the advertised starting time of the first race.  This being the time set out by GRNZ for the RIU Stewards to complete the initial Track Reports.  A notice of deferred trials will be displayed in the Office and Kennel Block.

 

Other Trials

There will be the opportunity for LPs to trial any other greyhounds at the conclusion of the race meeting, note this includes handslips.
